The University of Surrey commissioned Alterline to produce a report that investigates Surrey’s attainment gap between students who are and are not eligible for free school meals from early years through key stage 4.

The report finds that Surrey’s gap is significant and grows between early years and primary school, and finds that FSM eligible pupils are more than a year and a half behind the peers at the point of leaving school at 16.

The report looks into reasons for this gap and presents 12 recommendations for practitioners and policy-makers to consider.
